Learning to Listen in Prayer

Linda Schubert, an internationally loved woman of prayer, had this prayer in her recent email.  Encouraging words of wisdom for those of us who seek.

“God desires to talk to us so we can understand what he wants in our lives.  While secular knowledge comes through study, spiritual understanding deepens through relationship, listening, asking.  Because He is in us and we are in him (see John 15), communication should be normal.  Guided by the Holy Spirit, our time in scripture can open us to hear from God.  As he focuses our eyes on verses key to our spiritual condition, he will speak liberty into our souls.  His voice may be a quiet word, a sense in our spirit, or just a feeling of relief, lightness, peace or a settling inside.  We know it is God speaking to us; and we know it will accomplish what God desires (see Isa 55:11).  We can hear because we know he loves us.  “Whether you turn to the right, or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you! saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it'” (Isa 30:21).”
